By now you have no doubt heard about that age old debate between computer users: Windows vs. Mac OS. This is nothing new, and each system has quite a bit to recommend it. Yet there are differences that mean that one or the other is probably better for your purposes. In this article we are going to explore some of the features of both Windows and of Mac and hopefully this will make it easier for you to make a decision.
For anyone concerned about security, the best choice is not Windows. If you are a Windows user, then you already know about computer viruses. For some reason, users of a Mac are less likely to get a virus, but mainly the majority of people are using Windows. Malware and spyware are similar to viruses, and the results for Windows users is also similar. You will more than likely have to spend time and money to get anti-virus software, and keep it updated, if your new computer has Windows OS. The threats will be much fewer when you have a Mac, but it is still wise to take precautions. At the same time, you should remember that there are also many security issues that come down to your own actions, such as revealing your personal data to scam artists and hackers. The best protected computer will fail if you take your common sense, and throw it away. Most of the most popular products released by Apple aren’t actually computers at all, they are the iPods, iPads and iPhones. Obviously if you are a Mac user, it’s really easy to connect these devices to your computers.
Mac users are given free iCloud service access, which makes it ridiculously easy to keep your computer synced with your various i-devices. This means that transferring content like videos that you download to your external devices to your Mac computer is very easy to do. Obviously, this is only a major benefit if you enjoy using Apple’s mobile devices. When you have a Windows PC, it is usually quite a lot harder to keep things synced with other devices like mobile phones.
People who feel very strongly that either Windows or Mac is the superior operating system often exaggerate the differences. The two systems didn’t have a lot in common, when individual programs only worked for one system or the other, but not both. Having software that will work with either a Mac or a PC, and run devices hooked up to either one, is a big improvement. A modern Mac can now run Windows, if you happen to have one. There are still a few specialized areas where Windows or Mac is superior, but for the majority of computer users, either one will allow you to do most of what you need to do.
There is no definitive answer as to whether Mac or Windows is the absolute best OS. Both have their fans, and there are definite advantages to each system. Your best bet is to take stock of your needs, your budget, etc and then pick the OS that is the best match for as many of those things as possible.
